About Durham Kennel Club Building
The Durham Kennel Club operates from its own building at 7318 Guess Road in north Durham. The club states it was established in 1928 and incorporated in 1931, and describes its members as dog owners from all walks of life – full-time breeders, weekend exhibitors and ordinary interested pet owners.
Classes
The club is unusual among the Durham area's training options in that it is a member organization that also teaches the public. In its own words, it "offers to its members and to the general public classes in obedience, agility and conformation show handling", with separate published class pages for agility, conformation, freestyle and obedience/rally. It also runs agility trials through the year alongside its classes.
Community work
The club publishes several community programs: a breed information service and a breeder information service offering guidance on buying a puppy and finding breeders, educational programs, and pet therapy visits by members and their dogs to rest homes and similar facilities. It also states that it involves itself in legislation concerning dogs.
Practical
Monthly meetings are held on the third Monday of each month except February, when the club holds its annual awards dinner, and begin with a covered-dish dinner.
