About Elite K9 LLC

What it is

Elite K9 is a stay-and-train operation in Medford. The home page frames the goal as portability: "I believe dog owners should be able to take their dogs everywhere you go. Camping, traveling, pet friendly store or restaurants/coffee shops." Alongside the residential programs the site says "Training packages are offered as stay and train programs, virtual programs, and group classes."

Method, stated plainly

The services page does not hedge: "Elite K9 uses balanced training methods. E-collars, prong collars and slip leashes are used during training." The program notes add that the programs other than the puppy one "use a Mini Educator e-collar for on- and off-leash communication", described on the site as functioning "like a medical-grade TENS unit" and used "to enhance safety and off-leash reliability, particularly in high-prey-drive situations." Owners are not left out at the end — "clients will get a full 1-2 hour lesson on what their dog has learned and how to keep up with their new boundaries, structure, and obedience at home."

The programs and published prices

Three stay-and-train tiers are listed. The Premiere Puppy Program is "a 2 1/2 week stay and train program (18 days)" for puppies "starting at 4 months of age to 6 months", covering crate training, potty training, basic cues and socialization, at $850.00. The Elite Canine Program is a three-week program "for dog owners who are looking for on and off leash training", at $1600. The First Class Behavior Modification Program is a four-week program "designed to help those with dogs that are reactive, fearful or just need more attention with behavioral issues", at $2000.00. A refresher stay is offered to graduates, and boarding is "only available for past training clients. (Not open to the public.)"

An important limit

The behavior modification listing draws a boundary in its own words: "We currently do not work with aggressive dogs." Owners of aggression cases should read that line before inquiring.

Requirements

Dogs must be current on vaccinations including Bordetella, on flea and tick prevention within 30 days of the stay, and "Be familiar with crate use" before drop-off. The site also notes that "Dogs will be transitioned to working without food and/or toys; treats are used minimally", and asks clients to follow the business on social media for training updates during the stay.
