About Patriot K9s Of Wisconsin
What it is
Patriot K9s of Wisconsin is not a pet-obedience business. Its mission statement is the whole of it: "At no cost to qualified Veterans, we educate and train Psychiatric Service Dog Teams to have a fulfilling and meaningful life in the community of their choice." The site describes itself as "a local, 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Central Wisconsin-Wausau area" and says "Patriot K9s of Wisconsin (PK9s) is a non-profit organization established in 2017 in Wausau, Wisconsin."
Who it serves
"We provide Service Dogs and training for Veterans impacted by military-related Post-traumatic Stress (PTS), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and Military Sexual Trauma (MST), at no cost to qualifying Veterans." Coverage is not limited to the metro: "We provide services to veterans throughout Wisconsin and the surrounding area, however we have no geographical boundaries." The wider goal is stated as "Helping veterans win the war against suicide, depression and anxiety by empowering them with the use of a service dog and connecting them to the resources they need to improve their daily lives." The site says that since inception it "has graduated 94 Service Dog Teams" and "provides services and resources to over 100 veterans" — figures the organization publishes about itself.
Training approach, as stated
"Our training is led by a group of highly educated and experienced trainers that have years of experience and are committed to the betterment of their communities… All our trainers have the education, dedication, and passion to provide top-level service dog training using the most current, scientifically proven, positive reinforcement training methods available."
How to start, and the wider program
Prospective applicants are pointed to a Veteran Resources page and a "How To Qualify" step before applying. The organization also runs volunteer puppy raising, donations and community events, and its contact block prints a crisis line alongside the office number — worth knowing before you call. Office hours are listed as weekdays, closed weekends.
Who is named
The About page introduces its staff by name and role, two of them listed with CPDT-KA after their names, with biographies covering military and animal-care backgrounds. This profile does not restate them.
