About Flick K9 Training
Board and train in the Shenandoah Valley
Flick K9 Training runs board-and-train programs built for real-world obedience. The trainer lives in the Shenandoah Valley between Harrisonburg and Staunton and takes dogs from Harrisonburg, Staunton, Charlottesville, Richmond, Arlington and surrounding Virginia areas. Dogs stay in the trainer's own home with his family.
Programs
Programs run two, four or eight weeks: Puppy Head Start (2 weeks, for puppies 8 weeks to 6 months), Basic Obedience (2 weeks), Advanced Obedience (4 weeks) and Behavior Modification (8 weeks). Training includes real-world exposure to different environments and distractions, and every program ends with a lesson teaching the owner to maintain the skills.
Method
The trainer describes himself as balanced, using the four quadrants of operant conditioning. He focuses on positive reinforcement but also uses slip leashes and prong collars, and dogs trained off-leash are trained with an e-collar. He has worked with working canines since 2018.
Extras
Graduates can board for a refresher when space permits, paying only the boarding fee. A 10% discount is offered to military, first responders, nurses and teachers. No guarantee is offered.
What to ask
Ask which program length fits your dog, current availability, and how the handover lesson works.
