About Fur the Love of Dogs Inc

A full-service dog center in Spring Grove

Fur the Love of Dogs, at 2400 Highview St in Spring Grove, describes itself as "a family-owned dog care center" offering daycare, grooming, boarding, training and self-service dog wash facilities – what it calls a "home away from home." The site says the business is family owned and operated and cage-free for overnights, and states "15+ years of experience."

Obedience training

The training page frames obedience as a shared education: "Dogs do not come with the knowledge of what is acceptable in the human world; it is up to us to educate ourselves and the dog," using "positive reinforcements and basic commands." Class size is limited to provide individual attention, proof of vaccination is required at enrollment, and the site specifies a leather or nylon leash – no retractable leashes – plus plenty of small treats. Owners are invited to visit trainers before a class or watch one in action before enrolling.

Instructors and classes as published

Cheryle Homuth is described as a Certified Professional Dog Trainer through the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and a Certified Training Partner for the Karen Pryor Academy, professionally training dogs "for over 10 years," teaching K9 Nose Work, canine freestyle dance, tricks, rally obedience, targeting, shaping and clicker classes alongside obedience, plus in-home consultations. Lisa Lillie is described as having begun training dogs in 1975 and as currently an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator and part of the American Professional Dog Trainers Association. Published nose work prices are $140.00 for a seven-week beginning or intermediate course and $20.00 for a pay-as-you-go drop-in. The start dates printed on that page are stale, so confirm the current schedule before booking.
