Overview
About Great Scott Dog Training
Science-based training in Palm Bay
Great Scott Dog Training is owned by Christine Scott and serves Palm Bay, Melbourne, Grant and the beaches of central and south Brevard County. A former clinical microbiologist with over 20 years in laboratory science, she brings that background to her training and uses only science-based methods. She is a graduate of Animal Behavior College, a CPDT-KSA, a Certified Trick Dog Instructor and an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator, and a mentor trainer for Animal Behavior College and CATCH Canine Trainers Academy.
Method
Training is positive and force-free, based on rewards rather than punishment. Problem behaviors are handled by teaching an alternative behavior, alongside leadership exercises and owner education. Pinch and choke collars are not allowed in class.
Team and classes
Diana Short, an Animal Behavior College graduate, spent 7 years as a puppy raiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind. Tonya Napoli, a CATCH graduate, runs Walk and Learn sessions on loose-leash walking. Private lessons run Monday to Saturday. Six-week group classes at the Melbourne Community Center at Wickham Park cost $120, including an AKC Canine Good Citizen class and a basic class where puppies can earn the AKC STAR Puppy certificate.
