About Jump Creek Kennels
Pointing dog training in Harper
Jump Creek Kennels trains and develops all pointing dog breeds from its kennel at 3099 Little Valley Rd. in Harper, just outside Vale. Surrounded by BLM land, the kennel exercises and trains dogs on foot and from horseback all year. It favors a strength-based approach, transparency with clients and an individual program for each dog, combining wild upland bird work, obedience and yard work to develop a finished pointing dog.
The team
Derrick has a lifelong love of pointing dogs, is a certified AKC and AFTCA judge and handler, and has judged and handled pointing breeds in field trials. He has worked with breeds from Pointers, German Shorthairs and Brittanys to setters, Vizslas and Weimaraners. Shannon brings a passion for horses, and together they compete in licensed field trials.
Services
Full-service pointing dog training is planned individually with each owner. Puppy School uses shorter, frequent sessions for basic obedience and positive bird and gun introduction, and gun sensitivity assistance uses positive reinforcement to rebuild a dog's confidence.
