About KIBA K9s | World-Class Dog Training

KIBA K9s works from 209 Malcolm X Blvd in Bed-Stuy and calls what it does the modern art of dogmanship. Everything starts with a booked evaluation.

The programs

Six are published and they cover the full ladder: Puppy Steps for the earliest work, day training, board and train, private lessons, performance training and enrichment, with boarding alongside. Performance training and enrichment sitting on the same menu as puppy foundations tells you this is a facility geared to keeping a working-type dog occupied as well as fixing a household problem.

The system behind it

The stated foundation is NePoPo, described as an internationally acclaimed system inspired by over fifty years of experience, integrated with current research in animal and behavior science. The team is described as routinely attending courses, seminars, workshops and conferences each year – a claim about continuing education rather than a one-off certificate. NePoPo is a structured, marker-based system with a defined progression, and knowing that a facility works to one named system rather than an improvised mix is useful information when comparing trainers.

What clients bring

The published reviews are all serious cases handled residentially. A six-week board and train for a dog with anxiety, low confidence and a weight problem, whose owner reports the anxiety under control and the dog responding in public spaces. A one-month board and train for two terrier mixes, one of them described by the owner as very dog aggressive with the other following his lead, ending with the fighting stopped, better leash walking and responsive recall. A one-month puppy program for a Rhodesian Ridgeback where the owners describe the groundwork of communication being set up with them as well as the dog, so they could continue at home.

What the reviews show about the model

Across all three, the owners describe being taught alongside the dog. For a board-and-train facility, that handover is the part that determines whether the result survives the drive home.
