Gun dog training west of Faribault

Labs Unlimited Kennels is a family-owned and operated kennel 6 miles west of Faribault specializing in gun dog, hunt test and field trial training. Dogs train on 160 acres of custom-designed grounds with seven spring-fed ponds and live in a facility with 32 heated and air-conditioned kennels. The kennel limits the number of dogs in its program so each gets focused attention and repetition.

The trainer

Trainer Jerry Sather grew up around working pointers and retrievers and trained his first lab for field competition at age 16. His philosophy: "Always be fair, firm, and consistent with your dog. If you learn that, you will earn your dog's respect."

Programs

Options include an obedience program for large breed dogs, a 2-week puppy program introducing pups of 6 to 7 months to birds, guns and water, a pre-season refresher course, an intermediate program for dogs 7 months and older aimed at off-leash control and trained retrieves, an advanced program for hand signals, cold blinds and multiple marks, and private lessons for owners who want to handle their own dog. Online training is also offered.
