Mohawk Hudson Humane Society
Overview
About Mohawk Hudson Humane Society
Mohawk Hudson Humane Society is the Capital Region's main open-admission shelter, on Oakland Avenue in Menands, and it runs two services that make it real dog-training supply rather than only an adoption center.
Dog training
Dog Training is published as its own item under What We Do, alongside the shelter's veterinary services, pet food pantry, humane education and summer camp. Shelter-run classes are typically the lowest-cost structured training in any metro, and this one is centrally placed for Albany, Troy and Colonie owners.
The behavior helpline
The second service is the one worth knowing about before you need it: a Behavior Helpline, published separately from training. For an owner in the middle of a problem – a new rescue that is not settling, a sudden change in a long-owned dog – a helpline is a different product from a course, and very few organizations in this metro publish one.
The rest of what they do
Adoption for dogs, cats and small animals, rehoming and surrender support, stray intake and redemption, spay and neuter, financial assistance toward veterinary bills, cruelty investigations, an animal abuser registry, lost and found, and pet bereavement support. Opening hours are published as Monday to Friday midday to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm, closed Sundays.
Practical note
As a nonprofit shelter, class availability and pricing move with the calendar and with volunteer capacity. Check the current schedule with the shelter directly rather than assuming a fixed term.
