About Old Dogs New Tricks Dog Training

Old Dogs New Tricks is Alissa Mosier's training practice, working across the Capital Region rather than out of a storefront of its own. She lists CPDT-KA, FFPE and an MS in Education after her name and describes the work as blending science with compassion, a heavy dose of positive reinforcement and common sense.

What she teaches

Group classes, consultations and private lessons covering manners, basic obedience and behavior. Her current teaching runs out of Good Choice Dog Training in Albany, where she offers a puppy class, an enrichment class, and Puppy Too, which the site describes as designed for adolescent dogs rather than young puppies. She also teaches games and tricks classes.

Babies, toddlers and dogs

The part of the practice that is genuinely unusual here is the Family Paws work. Alissa is a licensed Family Paws Parent Educator, and the site carries a dedicated Babies and Toddlers and Dogs page for parents who are either preparing for a baby or already dealing with a problem between a child and the family dog. Very few trainers in this metro publish that as a distinct service.

Private lessons and online work

Private lessons cover basic manners, preparing for a new dog, and serious behavior including reactivity and aggression. The site says she has over fifteen years of experience and works both online and in person, and it publishes a rates and services page rather than leaving pricing to a phone call.
