About Nebraska Dog Trainers
Obedience training in Lincoln and Omaha
Nebraska Dog Trainers runs a Lincoln Training Center at 500 N 66th St and an Omaha training center in La Vista, training dogs of all ages and breeds. Founder Lesley Thompson opened the business in 2015 after fostering, grooming and training dogs on a volunteer basis since 2002. Michele, owner and lead trainer of the Lincoln location, has trained with the company since December 2015 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with a companion animal focus from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The team cites over 50 combined years of knowledge.
The three-phase method
Phase 1, Show & Tell, teaches commands with lots of positive reinforcement: food, treats, toys and praise. Phase 2, Practice & Accountability, adds duration, motion, distance and tempting distractions. Phase 3, Exposure & Habit, practices in new places and public spaces so obedience becomes a habit in any setting.
Services
Training covers basic obedience (sit, down, stay), advanced obedience (place, heel, no/off), reactivity and aggression, and manners problems such as leash pulling, counter surfing, obsessive barking, jumping up and door darting. Lesley is also experienced in therapy dog certification and behavior modification. Free phone consultations help owners decide whether the program fits.
What owners say
One family wrote: "Our dog is now calm and controlled when he needs to be and our family is enjoying him so much more."
