About Next-Door K9 Solutions of Louisville
About
Next-Door K9 Solutions of Louisville is "a locally, Veteran owned/operated, professional dog training
company" offering board and train programs tailored to the individual dog. The company was "founded
in order to promote well-rounded, balanced, and healthy dog training," and states its trainers "have
over 10 years of experience."
Its values are published as Communication, Fairness and Understanding.
Behavior work is the stated specialty: "Behavior modification is our bread and butter! No dog is too
scary or too bad. We love dealing with the worst cases around, that nobody else wants to touch."
Programs
– **Puppy Training** — 2 and 3 week programs teaching the basics of obedience alongside
socialization, positive behavior and potty training; the 3-week version adds public outings.
– **Mature Dog Foundation Training** — a 1-week program "designed to break up longer programs in
order to gradually accomplish larger training goals."
– **On Leash Training** — 2 weeks, "designed to give the owner the most control of their dog while on
walks, in public venues, and at home."
– **Off Leash Training** — 3 weeks, teaching the basics on and off leash "while also proofing obedience
in public venues for complete control."
– **Reactivity Training** — 4 weeks, teaching on and off leash obedience and correcting unwanted
behaviors deriving from reactivity.
– **Aggression Rehabilitation** — a minimum 4-week program that "can extend as long as the dog
needs." The company is candid about the ceiling: "Aggression cannot be cured, and proper management
is the only long term solution."
A Day-Training option is also offered, with daily drop-off and pick-up and weekly owner updates.
Method and tools
Balanced training, explained at length: "instead of limiting ourselves to one quadrant, we utilize
each, hopping in and out of each style during a single dog's training regime."
On tools: "After we assess your dog, we begin by utilizing food to lure and shape behaviors. There are
times that we utilize tools such as clickers for marking behavior, heeling sticks to communicate
through touch, and so on. As the dog progresses, we start by utilizing a slip lead … We also utilize
prong collars and e-collars." The stated intent is "to use the lowest level possible of pressure in
order to communicate with the dog, rather than harm the dog," and owners are never forced to use a
tool — "which is why we have other programs designed for that reason."
Care during a stay
Dogs stay either at the facility or in a trainer's home. Containment is "a crate large enough for your
dog or a 5 ft x 5 ft kennel," each with its own water and food bowls, orthopedic beds and kennel
markers. The facility has "over 20 cameras covering every angle," staff on premises from 5 AM until
after 10 PM with overnight camera monitoring, and is cleaned more than three times a day with a deep
clean on Sundays. Dogs go out multiple times daily for training, potty breaks, exercise, play and
socialization, and owners receive text, call, photo and video updates at least once a day.
All dogs must be up to date on shots with a clean fecal and no extensive skeletal issues.
