About Obedient Paws
Obedient Paws is a boot camp with a facility, and it publishes more of its terms than almost anyone else in this metro.
The philosophy, in plain language
"We view our pets as members of the family. Our dogs like our children need love, guidance, structure & boundries. They need an education. Obedience training is a stimulating & rewarding game for your pet that encourages wanted behaviors & discourages unwanted behaviors." The problem list that follows is long and specific – jumping, play biting the children, leash pulling, door bolting, destructive chewing, digging, barking, resource guarding, under-socialized, aggressive, biting – and the framing is deliberate: "These are NOT bad dogs, just untaught who do not yet understand the rules of the game." The owner's role is not optional: the program "Teaches the owner how to communicate effectively with their dog. You will learn to send a clear & consistent message so your dog learns the rules of the game."
The boot camp, and what it costs
"BOOT CAMP / BOARD & TRAIN – intensive training 2x a day & socialization, includes private lessons held on site with family while dog is attending boot camp." The ladder is published in full: "1 week $1,500 includes 2 onsite private lessons", "2 weeks $2,500 includes 4 onsite private lessons", "3 weeks $3,500 includes 6 onsite private lessons", and "4 weeks $4,400 includes 8 onsite private lessons recommended for behavioral problems, resource guarding, fear based aggression, socialization & off leash E collar training." Payment is split – "Payment schedule: 1/2 on drop off 1/2 on pick up".
Try before you commit
A single session is offered as a deliberate no-obligation step: "Private lesson / Consultation / Evaluation 1hr $150 This gives the client an opportunity to meet me, see me work with your dog & receive feedback on your dog's evaluation before making a decision on investing $ into your dogs training. If you decide to continue with training, I will credit the $150 towards the cost of boot camp."
Boarding, daycare and the other options
It is a "Training , Boarding & Daycare Facility located in Virginia Beach", with boarding that includes "playtime with other dogs included if dog is dog friendly" and long-stay rates that fall with length – $60 a day at fourteen days down to $30 a day at ninety. Training can also come to you: "In-Home training available" and "Off site training in pubic available (beach, park, ect)", with video or phone evaluations for those starting at a distance.
Practicalities that will actually affect you
Three vaccines are required – DHPP, rabies and bordetella – with a photo or PDF of the record accepted. Drop-off and lesson windows are split morning and late afternoon, with out-of-hours possible by arrangement. Spanish is spoken, WhatsApp is used for clients abroad, and the site invites you to "Schedule a visit to see where the dogs rest, train and play." For a residential program, taking that up is the single most useful thing you can do.
Where it is
"Located @ 403 Davis St one block off Virginia Beach Blvd.", behind a well-known coffee shop, roughly halfway between the Oceanfront and Norfolk and minutes from the I-64/264 interchange – convenient if you are dropping a dog off on the way to the airport.
