About PawSessions Dog Training, Socialization and Event Center of Long Island

PawSessions Dog Training, Socialization and Event Center of Long Island works out of 51 Broadway in Greenlawn and is one of the few businesses in the Town of Huntington with a dedicated indoor training floor rather than a service area. Its own site describes 'a spacious 1,200 sq ft indoor facility – train rain or shine' alongside a park-like fenced social area laid with antimicrobial artificial grass. The business is run by a mother and daughter, Laurie and Sarah, who write on their About page that they grew up in Huntington and opened the business in the community they live in.

What they teach

The published class list is unusually specific for a small operation: behavioral evaluations, private sessions, beginner obedience, an advanced and socialization track, AKC Canine Good Citizen classes at the CGC, CGCA and CGCU levels, a parks-and-outings series that takes trained dogs out into real environments, an introduction to off-leash skills, and a fun-gility and tricks class. Group classes are sold as six weekly session packages, and private sessions can be bought singly or in packages 'if you find that your dog needs additional help in certain areas'. In-home sessions are also available.

The dogs they take

The About page is direct about the caseload: 'From puppies who need to learn their basics, to dogs with mild to severe aggression, leash reactivity, and timid or shy dogs, we work with you on building your dog's confidence and independence.' It also states the business prides itself 'on our success with problem cases along with basic training needs'. That is a useful signal for an owner whose dog has been turned away elsewhere.

Service and therapy dog work

PawSessions publishes a separate Service Dog Training Information page and states that it offers CGC, CGCA and CGCU (Public Access) training for therapy and service dogs. Laurie is published as a Certified AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator, and the evaluator number – #103941 – appears in the footer of every page on the site, which is the sort of detail an owner can check before booking.

Socialization and play

Supervised social play sessions run Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9:30am to 12:30pm and 2:30pm to 5:30pm, with a rest period for dogs staying a full day. The site is careful to separate play from training: if a dog has social problems, it directs owners to training sessions first rather than dropping the dog into a group. A canine emergency-care course for owners and pet professionals is also run by a team member who publishes a 20-year background as a volunteer firefighter and paramedic.
