Medford dog owners can train at the Petco at 3850 Mystic Valley Pkwy, store 3791. Booking is by phone at (781) 350-1999, and training runs nine to nine from Monday through Saturday, nine to eight on Sunday.

Fundamentals and Advanced

Dogs aged six months or more usually land in one of two Medford courses. Medford's Fundamentals course teaches sit, down, come, "wait" and "leave it," works on walking without pulling, and addresses jumping and barking. Medford's Advanced course moves on to heel, a solid down and wait, coming back amid distractions, polite greetings and brain games. Younger dogs start in the Puppy or Beginner groups. Every group course takes six weeks.

What to pack

Bring a properly fitted leash and collar or harness, a treat pouch, poop bags and vaccination records. Private 45-minute lessons are an alternative for owners who want one-on-one time.
