About Positive Partnership Training

Force-free training that teaches the owner first

Positive Partnership Training, LLC is run by Jennifer Hunter, whose site describes her as a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, CPDT-KA. Her stated role is to "help you learn how you can motivate your dog(s) to perform & repeat the behaviors you find desirable- in the clearest & kindest ways possible." On the home page she calls the term dog trainer "a bit of a misnomer", because her role is to teach people.

What she works on

The home page lists common problems she handles: a dog who gets mouthy or aggressive when playing, possessive over food, bones or toys, growling or snapping when moved off a couch or bed, overly protective when guests come to the home, lunging, barking or growling at other dogs on walks, or reluctant, scared and anxious on walks in general. Chewing and destructive behavior, loose-leash walking and crate training are also called out.

Formats and published rates

The services page lists in-home private training, virtual training and phone consults. Virtual sessions are conducted over Zoom or FaceTime and are published at $40 for 30 minutes, $80 for 60 minutes and $110 for 90 minutes, with the 60 and 90 minute sessions including a written summary. Phone consultations are billed in 30 minute increments at the rate of $30 per 30 minutes. The same page publishes in-person package pricing for puppy and basic obedience work and a separate range-based rate for behavioral sessions, which it defines as addressing any kind of aggression, reactivity, or fear-avoidant behavior towards people or other animals; the page notes the specific price within the range is set after discussing the dog's issues.

Background

The about page says she earned a B.A. in Psychology from Purdue and became a certified Massage Therapist before moving into dog work, and that in August of 1999 she started "A Walk in the Park! of the North Shore", a dog walking and petsitting service to which she later added doggie daycare and overnight dog sitting. It says she gained comprehensive knowledge of dog behavior and force-free training methods during a rigorous apprenticeship, then worked as a professional dog trainer privately and created and taught classes from Puppy Kindergarten and Dog Reactivity to a Mind Your Manners class. The page states that in November of 2015 she received her accreditation as a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed, logging over 300 hours of training time, passing a rigorous examination, and agreeing to uphold the CCPDT Code of Ethics.
