About For Paws Dog Training

Customized positive reinforcement, from pet manners to service dogs

For Paws Dog Training describes its work as "Making it easier for you and your dog to navigate everyday life with customized, positive reinforcement, dog training", and invites owners to schedule an evaluation. The site's services menu lists private lessons, board and trains and boarding, service dogs, day care and day training, group classes, and sliding scale lessons.

The trainer

The about page names Megan Carothers as owner and head trainer, and traces her route into the work through her own dogs: a black lab, Skylar, then Koda, who the page says began learning tasks as a service dog from a young age and has helped evaluate and train client dogs. It says she raised and trained a yellow lab as a medical alert and mobility service dog for a client in Minnesota, and that a chocolate lab was recently placed as a migraine alert and multipurpose service dog. The page states that "after eight years of learning and over one hundred clients" she is working to earn her CPDT-KSA and CBCC-KA certifications after interning and working under a trainer, working with a service dog foundation, and doing her independent study.

Credentials held

The about page lists the certifications she currently holds: CPDT-KA from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, CDTK (Certified in Dog Training Knowledge) through CATCH, and Service Dog Coach (SDC) through Cooperative Paws. It describes CATCH's teaching as the LIMA, or Least Invasive Minimally Aversive, approach. The page also says she is a member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, has completed the Aggression in Dogs Master Course to help reactive and aggressive dogs, is canine and feline CPR and first aid certified, and is an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator as well as an AKC Fit Dog Evaluator for levels 1-2.
