About Proactive Dog Training, LLC

Proactive Dog Training, LLC works from East Chatham Street in Cary. Its own site introduces the trainer directly: "My name is Javier Mendoza-Diek and I am a dog trainer, a Zoologist, and a veterinary technician," and the business summarizes his background as "over 10 years of experience as a dog trainer, zoology degree with a concentration in animal behavior, and 8 years as a veterinary technician."

The published view of training

The site is blunt about what it thinks matters: "To me dog training is not all about fancy tricks… The truth about being successful on training a good dog has to do with rewarding the right state of mind and correcting the wrong one. A dog that is aware that his behavior has good or bad consequences is a dog that is more likely to make correct choices."

Programs

Four programs are published: puppy training, private sessions, a dog training boot camp, and off-leash board and train. Private sessions are described as portable – "anywhere, from your home, to specific locations where your dog might struggle more like at the veterinary clinic or the park." The board-and-train program lists the behaviors it covers as down, stay, place, loose-leash walking, recalls, crate training, thresholds and behavioral issues, and the off-leash package is aimed at "reliability in public with heavy distractions," with the site noting off-leash work is only recommended where it is permitted.
