Retriever and upland programs

Schillings Gun Dogs trains hunting dogs at two sites, Chelsea and Vincent. Retriever work covers force fetch, marking, honoring other dogs, remote sending, hand signals for blind retrieves and blind search to NAVHDA standards, and the team handles client dogs in AKC hunt tests from Junior through Master. The upland pointer and flushing program includes whoa breaking, quartering, backing and sit on the flush, with pointers trained to be steady to wing, shot and fall.

Obedience and clinics

The obedience program covers heel work on and off lead, place training, socialization with other dogs, UTV awareness, manners such as crossing thresholds on command, an introduction to water, shot conditioning and an introduction to live birds; the site puts it at around two months, with two to three one-on-one clinics for the owner along the way. Separate 1:1 clinics of one hour to half a day are held at both locations by appointment.

Grounds and boarding

The Vincent location has 110 acres of fields and pines and tech ponds built in fall 2023, open to the public for retriever training at $30 per dog. The Chelsea location, two miles off Hwy 280, has a 47-acre pond and covered outdoor kennels used for boarding, with a two-day minimum stay.
