About Siriusly K9 Academy

Siriusly K9 Academy is the most transparently priced trainer in this metro: every class, lesson and program on its site carries a cost and a duration. The banner credential is "CPDT-KA CERTIFIED DOG TRAINER IN COOKEVILLE, TN", and three instructors are listed by first name with their own phone numbers – Victoria, named as the owner, with Destiny and Brandi as instructors.

Where the training happens

This is not a facility business. They state it plainly: "Group classes are held at local dog parks, and individual lessons can be held in your home or at local pet-friendly parks and stores."

The class ladder

Six group courses run five weeks each. Foundations level 1 is the beginner and puppy entry point, covering "potty training and crate training information, focus, sit, name recognition, redirection, loose leash walking, down, wait, come, leave it, drop it, off." Foundations level 2 is "Designed for those who have the basics under wrap, but need help with impulse control and patience." Intermediate adds heel, distraction work and "working in new places with new distractions." Advanced is aimed at Canine Good Citizen candidates – "Your dog will be able to test for Canine Good Citizen at the end of the 5 week course." A Tricks class and a Therapy class complete the set, and the therapy page is careful about what it does and does not confer: "Taking this class does NOT make you a therapy dog."

Private lessons and board and train

Private lessons are thirty minutes and run either at home or in a public setting, with no set curriculum – "I come to you to work on behaviors you would like instead of a set curriculum." The board and train is a month in the trainer's own household: "Your dog stays in our home for the month while learning new cues and house manners." Vaccinations, flea and tick medication and heartworm prevention are required.

How they describe their approach

The philosophy block is written in the first person and is explicitly reinforcement-based: "Reinforcement drives behaviors. If you reinforce a behavior, good or bad, that behavior will be repeated." It ends "I believe not every dog learns the same way, so I believe in training the dog in front of you."
