About Sit Smart Dog Training

What they do

Sit Smart Dog Training describes itself as “a full-service training company based in Decatur, GA servicing the greater Atlanta area.” Rather than a fixed syllabus, the business builds “a custom training plan for each client that acknowledges the specific needs of both you and your dog.” It also runs boarding, with a dedicated boarding manager responsible for daily photo, video and written updates to owners.

Method

The stated approach is teaching owners to read dogs: “We teach you to better understand the nuanced way dogs communicate through body language and behavior to better understand the things your dog wants and needs. That allows you to give your dog what they want in return for what you want.” The business frames that exchange as collaborative learning that carries on past the sessions.

The team

Owner Bryan Kolton's own about page states he served in the USMC, where he first saw military working dogs at work, moved from North Carolina to Atlanta after his enlistment ended, took his first job working with dogs in 2013, and started Sit Smart after getting his CPDT-KA certification. Jessica “Theodora” Stansel joined in 2023, moved up to boarding manager, and the site states she is in the process of getting her own certification.
