About Southern Oregon Dog Training
A Grants Pass training team inspired by Duke
Southern Oregon Dog Training is a dog training business at 1492 Rogue River Highway in Grants Pass. The owners started it after moving back to their hometown, inspired by Duke, the Doberman Pinscher on the logo, who passed away in July 2021. The team says it has helped over 2,000 dogs and their owners, from people still thinking about a puppy to owners facing behavior problems in a five-year-old dog.
Approach
Training goes beyond basic commands to teach owners the principles of canine learning and the psychology behind dog behavior. The trainers describe themselves as flexible: they can teach a strictly positive reinforcement style built on treats, praise and play, or a balanced approach that addresses unwanted behaviors through constructive communication. Owners get tools, resources and personalized strategies along the way. Team qualifications include certification from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, schooling through the Association of Professional Dog Trainers and an accredited diploma from Canine Principles.
Facility and dog food
The training facility has walk-in hours on Fridays and Mondays from 3 to 6 PM and is appointment only the rest of the week. It also sells premium dog food, with pickup or home delivery.
