About The Charlton Kennels and Farm
A family kennel on Sauvie Island
The Charlton Kennels and Farm is a family-run boarding kennel and obedience training business on NW Charlton Rd, set on a 160-acre Century farm on Sauvie Island about 20 minutes from downtown Portland. Jim and Ellie Charlton founded it in 1967, and it has served dogs and their families for over 50 years. It offers safe, secure boarding for dogs and cats and board-and-train options for the mannerly dog.
Facilities
Each dog has its own private run of about 5 by 15 feet with an inner sleeping cubby, raised platform and, in most runs, a radiant heat lamp. Dogs are boarded individually and interact with staff, with several yards for off-leash sniffing, fetch and play, and extra yard time or on-leash farm walks for a small fee. The kennel and its trainers have been featured in Field and Stream Magazine, the Retriever Journal, the Oregonian and OPB's Oregon Field Guide.
What owners say
One Portland client wrote that the staff "is loving and professional" and met the needs of her older, anxious dog.
