About Sauvie Island Kennel
Boarding and training on Sauvie Island
Sauvie Island Kennels, at 23200 NW Reeder Rd. in Portland, offers professional pet boarding and training across from Sturgeon Lake. Founders and owners Tim and Angela Schillereff acquired the property in 1988 and run it with their sons Nick and Tyler and their families. Tim has finished over 60 Field Champions, and the kennel is home of 2022 National Field Champion Tian Elhew Verbena.
Obedience training
The all-breed obedience program runs every month as a 30-day board and train that teaches sit, stay, down, come and heel, on and off lead, and includes proper acclimation to the e-collar plus several private lessons for owners. Dogs must be at least 8 months old, and in-house trainers are Amy Mosier, Christine Schillereff and Brookyn Tyrrell.
Bird dog and CGC training
The upland bird dog program for pointing dogs is a three-month stay with exposure to game birds, positive introduction to the gun and owner work sessions. AKC Canine Good Citizen training is also offered, along with dog and cat boarding.
