About The Kinetic K9
The Kinetic K9 is Amber Barry's board-and-train practice in Duanesburg, west of Schenectady, and the number it leads with is the one that defines it: one to two dogs per month. The site frames that as less volume, more intention, alongside fourteen-plus years of experience and lifetime graduate support.
Who it is for
The published problem list is behavioral rather than obedience-first: pulling, reactivity, anxiety, aggression and constant over-arousal. The site argues directly against the idea that more repetitions solve those, and says the work covers behavior, state of mind, communication, boundaries, obedience and reliability when real life gets difficult. Its stated goal is not a dog who performs for a trainer but a dog you can confidently live with.
The programs
Immersive board-and-train programs run three to six weeks, published in three tiers: three week, four week, and five to six weeks, split between foundation work and intensive behavioral rehabilitation. Nothing shorter is offered, which is consistent with the caseload cap.
What every program includes
The inclusion list is published in full: follow-up lessons, a go-home lesson, free group classes afterwards, overnight boarding access, a private support group, more than ten PDF guides, an Educator e-collar and slip leash, trainer support by call, text, email and video, and livestream Q&As. The e-collar and the off-leash work it supports are stated up front rather than discovered at handover.
Why she does it this way
Amber says she has been training dogs professionally since 2012 and that the work started as a necessity rather than a career: she was struggling with her own German Shepherd, who was showing serious, unsafe behaviors, and the trainers she tried locally were not getting anywhere. The published client accounts are about scale of change rather than commands – a first hike after the program, a first camping trip, a five-week turnaround on a dog the owner thought nobody could help.
