About The Life of Riley
About
The Life of Riley Pet Care Services, LLC offers "positive reinforcement-based Dog Training, Dog Walking
and Pet Sitting services in Louisville, KY." It was founded by Wendy Taylor and named for her
Rottweiler, Riley, whom she rescued from a shelter and lost in 2021.
The origin is the business's argument: "Often, when people don't know how to solve behavior issues,
they give up hope for a happy life with their pet. And, to the shelter good animals go … So, began my
journey to find a way to help people build better relationships with their pets. Because every pet
deserves the life of Riley."
The stated position on behavior: "There are NO bad pets. Only bad behaviors we positively want to
resolve."
Credentials
Wendy became certified through the Victoria Stilwell Academy for Dog Training and Behavior in 2017 and
holds VSA-Certified Dog Trainer (VSA-CDT) status. Her published credentials also include:
– Certified Behavior Consultant for Canines – Knowledge Assessed (CBCC-KA), through the CCPDT
– Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA), through the CCPDT
– Certified Fear Free Professional (Trainer)
– Certified Canine Fitness Trainer (CCFT), a course developed by FitPAWS and the University of
Tennessee
– Certified Family Dog Mediator (FDM)
The site explains why the FDM matters to the work: the program "bridges the gap between why a dog's
behavior is happening and how to resolve it in ways that often go beyond just training the dog to 'do
something else' instead."
Four guiding principles
Education, Communication, Mutual Respect and Fun. On communication: "Dogs are constantly communicating,
but unfortunately most people do not understand what dogs are saying because they have never learned
how to interpret a dog's method of communicating, which is through their body language." On mutual
respect, owners are asked "to view their dog's behavior from the perspective of the dog's experiences,
learning, history, genetics, and environment."
Services
Dog training; Puppy Socialization (8-16 weeks); Canine Fitness & Conditioning; Family Dog Mediator
consulting; Online Dog Training; Pet Sitting & Dog Walking (30-minute leashed walks); and cat training
and cat services. Fear Free handling is applied across visits, not just training: "Our team is
specifically trained to recognize and reduce stress in your pets."
Behaviors the site invites calls about include growling, door dashing, jumping on guests, aggressive
lunging on leash, playing hard-to-catch, destruction, recall failure, food or toy aggression,
excessive barking, leash pulling and chasing small animals.
New clients start with a "Meet and Greet" before the first service.
