About Almost Home Boarding & Training

About

Almost Home Boarding & Training is at 1219 Dorsey Lane, Louisville, KY 40223. It describes itself as

"a pet hotel, doggy daycare and grooming provider stationed in Louisville, Kentucky" that also boards

cats and exotics. The facility is "all indoors, climate controlled with spacious runs, outdoor yards

with 8-foot perimeter fences," with two fenced yards where boarding dogs go out one at a time, five

times a day. Tours are welcome any weekday during business hours.

Part of the stated mission is training-facing: "To provide spaces for pets and humans to learn and

build positive and lasting relationships."

Training philosophy

The training page is mostly a statement of method, and it is unusually direct:

> "Dog Training shouldn't hurt or scare your dog. It does not take strength, force, or dominance to

> train your dog. What it does take, is understanding how a dog learns."

The business supports "positive re-enforcement training techniques for your dog and NOT yelling or

throwing objects at your dogs; or using shock-, prong-, or choke-collars," and points owners to the

Fear Free philosophy. It also refuses to promise outcomes: "Some may say they guarantee results, but

here at Almost Home, we believe that there are no guarantees in dog training. Instead, we promise to

do our best to give you, the pet owner, the tools and knowledge to communicate and learn with your

dog."

The only training topics named on the page are leash walking and leash training. All dogs must be in

good health with written proof of rabies, distemper/parvo and bordetella vaccinations.
