The Snake School for Dogs does one thing: it trains dogs to recognize rattlesnakes and move away from them. Training takes place at a permanent 20-acre ranch in Santa Clarita, and the business also travels to other locations.
How the training works
Each dog gets about 25 focused minutes on a 12-station course that combines scent, sight, sound and exposure to live, safely caged rattlesnakes. The site says most dogs are snake-safe after one session, a same-season refresher is included, and an annual refresher is recommended after that. Dogs that need more work can come back free during the season.
The trainer
The trainer, Scott, describes more than 10 years of dog training experience and also works as a professional rattlesnake wrangler for film and TV. Weekend sessions can be booked online.
