About Wagging Rights Dog Training

Private in-home lessons across the Fox Valley and beyond

Wagging Rights Dog Training works out of St. Charles and publishes a long service-area list covering Elgin, South Elgin, Geneva, Batavia, Campton Hills, Carpentersville, Dundee, Hampshire, Elburn and dozens of other Chicago-area communities. The homepage says lessons are "customized lessons for obedience, behavior, calmness, communication, and reliable real-life results since 2015."

Lesson types

Eight training tracks are published: Obedience & Manners covering commands, calmness, manners and boundaries; Puppy Training including crate training, potty training, socialization, handling and stopping play biting; Behavior Modification for leash reactivity, resource guarding, fear, separation anxiety and aggression; Off Leash Training; Advanced Obedience proofed "in downtown areas, parks, stores, and public settings"; Day Training, where a trainer works the dog one on one and then transfers the skills to the owner; K9 Nose Work; and Trick Training.

How it starts and how it continues

The site offers a free phone consultation or a free virtual evaluation as the entry point. Training "starts in the comfort of your home, then moves into public places as your goals and your dog's progress call for it." Most lessons are said to include free support group classes upon trainer approval, described as a place to keep building after private lessons end.

Approach

The About page states the company is "well versed in all training tools" and "won't discriminate against any method or tool that is in the best interest for the owner and dog," while also stating that "faster training is not better training" and that the dog is taught to understand a behavior before reliability is pushed. The homepage credits its trainers with "10-20 years hands-on experience," and the site lists Tim Rains, Jennifer Walsh and Johnny under Meet Our Trainers.
