About Western Lakes Training Club of Buffalo
Western Lakes Training Club has been training dogs since 1958, which makes it by some distance the oldest dog training organization in this metro.
What it is
WLTC is a member club affiliated with the American Kennel Club, dedicated to training all dogs, purebred and mixed breed alike, while promoting good sportsmanship and giving dog people somewhere to share the interest. Crucially for anyone browsing this directory, club membership is not required to enroll in classes. Classes are open to everyone.
What is taught
The published class families are obedience, rally and Pet Dog 101; agility; canine fitness; and scent work. The club's stated position is that its experienced instructors teach the owner to train the dog to be a true companion and canine good citizen, and that anyone who wants to pursue competition and titles in obedience, rally or agility will be helped to perfect the skills to show with confidence.
What it hosts
Beyond classes the club runs AKC obedience and rally trials, AKC agility trials, Fast CAT trials, informal matches and Canine Good Citizen testing, plus an annual family picnic, a December holiday party and an awards banquet. Club meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 7pm in the training hall, and guests are always welcome.
Practicalities
The hall is at 2200 Military Rd, Tonawanda, NY 14150. Daytime and evening classes run, with days and times on the separate class schedules for obedience and rally, agility, and canine fitness.
