About WingNut Retrievers

Retriever training in Springville

WingNut Retrievers is a Springville retriever program that breeds and trains dogs for performance in the field. Owner Rodney Glenn is a retired commercial fisherman who spent 30 years longlining for halibut and black cod, and whose love of waterfowl hunting grew into training young retrievers. He typically trains up to six dogs at a time, including his own, client dogs and started dogs.

Programs and prices

WingNut charges one flat price per program, aimed at hunting, hunt test and field trial retrievers. The Force Fetch program ($1,000) starts with obedience, collar conditioning and leash control, then trains force fetch, off-collar obedience, whistle control, simple casting and pile work. The Handling Retriever program ($2,500) adds advanced pile work, casting and lining, and finishes when the dog runs an advanced test with multiple land marks and blinds. The Swim-by program is an additional $700. Each program comes with a booklet that holds the contract and a handler's guide, and owners are taught how to run their dog.
