About Wisconsin Rapids Kennel Club
What it is
Wisconsin Rapids Kennel Club is a dog club with its own training building at 150 Market Ave in Port Edwards. The club says it "has proudly served our community for over 50 years." Its classes are open to members and non-members; members get a class discount and can use the building to work with their dogs when classes are not in session.
Classes
"Typically, our class sessions are held once a week at the Club, are 8 weeks in length, and are offered 2-3 times per year, depending on interest and instructor availability." Obedience runs at Puppy/Beginner and Advanced levels and covers sit, down, stay, stand, heel and come, plus leave it, go to spot and watch me, with help for "specific problems like barking and jumping." The club describes its methods as "gentle and easy with positive reinforcement used through play and treats." Other classes: beginner and advanced agility (dogs 6 months and older that have finished a beginners' obedience session), therapy dog and Canine Good Citizen prep for dogs 1 year and older, AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy for puppies up to a year old, conformation handling, flyball and FIT DOG. Conformation and flyball welcome drop-ins.
Events and joining
The club hosts two agility trials a year, a yearly flyball tournament, FastCAT trials and Canine Good Citizen and AKC Temperament testing. Meetings are the first Monday of each month at 7pm, and visitors and well-behaved dogs are welcome. All dogs in class must be current on vaccinations and free of parasites. Register online or with the printable form; session dates go up on the club's site and Facebook group.
