About Lumpy’s Kennels
Who runs it
Lumpy's Kennels introduces itself as a "training and boarding facility, specializing in training hunting dogs, competition dogs, and obedience for companion dogs." The about page says "Lumpy's Kennels is owned and operated by Jeff Lemmenes" and that "Jeff has been training dogs professionally, full time, for over 10 years." It adds that the kennel "trains all types of gun dogs… flushers, retrievers, and pointers, including blood scent trailers and hounds, as well as obedience training for companion dogs."
The training programs
Six programs are published. The "Gun Dog Puppy" course is called "the most important training program we offer," designed "to bring out the natural instincts in young gun dogs while introducing them to the world they were bred for-the field." The "Gun Dog" course is "designed to develop a well-rounded hunting companion with a strong, reliable foundation," and the site stresses that it "teaches the owner how to make proper corrections." "Finished/Competition" is "for the Hunt Test/Field Trial competitor or the hunter that wants to take his dog to the next level." The "Conditioning/Brush-up" or "Pre-Season Tune-Up Program is built to have your dog performing at its absolute best when it matters most-opening day." "One on One Seminars" are "designed for owners who want to be actively involved in their dog's training rather than leaving their dog for a traditional board-and-train program." And the "Obedience/Companion Dog" listing is described as an "Off-Leash Obedience Program … designed for dog owners who want more than just basic manners-they want reliable control."
Year-round training
The kennel makes a point of the calendar: "We train through all Wisconsin seasons – even the winter. Scenting conditions are great and the cover has been groomed to handle the Wisconsin winters. This is a GREAT time to lay the foundation then roll into spring/summer and reinforce the training to have a confident, well trained bird dog come fall." Alongside training, the site runs a breeding program it says is "centered around proven bloodlines known for performance, intelligence, temperament, and natural hunting ability," with Bracco Italiano litters and started dogs listed.
