What it is

The Bark Academy is a daycare and training facility at 2522 Overlook Drive in Wausau. Its own home page splits the two: "Daycare can be booked via PetExec and paid for at The Bark Academy! Classes are booked and paid for via invoice, please message or call us for info!"

The training side

Training has no page of its own on the one-page site, but the policies confirm two formats: the refund policy states "NO refunds on group obedience classes or private training", so both group obedience and one-to-one work are on offer, and "Training classes can be booked and paid for by calling or messaging us!"

Method, as stated in the policies

The daycare rules are where the facility states its approach to correction: "If at any time your dog becomes aggressive toward another dog or human, we will correct the behavior, however if it continues the dog will be dismissed for the day or permanently, without a refund… This is a balanced training methods facility so at no point will correction be harmful." The same section notes that if a dog is e-collar trained, owners should "make sure collar/remote are fully charged and fitted properly."

Daycare, hours and requirements

Drop-off runs 6–8 a.m. Monday through Friday, with half-day pickup late morning and full-day pickup in the afternoon; the site lists a half day at $12, a full day at $20, and multi-dog at $30. Requirements are strict and spelled out: rabies, distemper, bordetella — which the site notes "is not a core vaccine and needs to be requested from your vet" — a clean fecal including giardia, and spay/neuter by 18 months of age. Standard leash and collar only: "NO RETRACTABLE LEASHES." Reservations and cancellations are the owner's responsibility through PetExec, and days booked "DO NOT roll over month to month."

What to ask

Its one-page site names no owner or trainer, claims no certification, and publishes no class price, length or schedule. Ask about those when you call.
