About New Bern Therapy Dog Training Certification

New Bern Therapy Dog Training and Certification works with one thing: getting a handler and their dog ready to work as a therapy team. It operates from 201 East Front Street in New Bern.

What they publish

The About page introduces Bob and Mary, who describe "over a decade of experience in the therapy dog world" and say they both carry American Kennel Club credentials for Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Community Canine (CGCA) and Urban Canine (CGCU) evaluations. They certify for two AKC-recognized national therapy dog organizations, Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Inc. and Love on a Leash.

How the training runs

"They will work with you to teach you to train your potential therapy dog", through lessons, group walks and guidance on the different training equipment. Their own description of the job the dog is being prepared for is visiting nursing homes, hospitals, senior centers, libraries, schools, assisted living, memory care and hospice, providing emotional support and comfort. They also write that there is "a serious shortage of therapy dogs".

Scope

This is a specialist service, not a general obedience school. Contact them directly to ask about prices, lessons, evaluations and availability.
