About Winnabow K9 Board & Train, LLC

Winnabow K9 Board & Train is a New Bern dog-training business built around a residential board-and-train program. Its own site says the aim is "training dogs to be better pets, all around", and the problems it lists are everyday ones: disobedience, a lack of potty training, pulling during walks, jumping on visitors, reactivity, and "the anxiety of leaving them alone at home".

What they publish

The program list on their own site is Puppy Training (basic commands, potty training, leash and crate introduction, socialization), On-Leash Training (loose-leash walking plus basic obedience), Off-Leash Training (recall and focus off lead), Reactivity Training (for dogs that bark, lunge or overreact) and Aggression Management Training (identifying triggers and building a plan around them). Dog boarding is offered alongside the training.

How the training runs

They describe a three-step process: a free consultation to pick the program, a stay in what they call a "safe, structured, and loving environment" with regular photo and video updates, and a handover where the owner is shown how to keep the work going. Their FAQ states dogs stay in a home-based environment "designed to mirror real-life living situations – not a kennel", with the number of dogs in the program deliberately limited. Pickup, drop-off and financing are offered.

Who runs it

The About page introduces Lora, the owner and Master Trainer, a North Carolina native who spent six years as a law enforcement officer in the Wilmington area before starting an internship with another trainer in 2021 and founding Winnabow K9 in 2022. A second trainer, Morgan, holds a Certificate from Animal Behavior College and has been training dogs since 2017.

Their published service-area list runs well beyond Craven County – Havelock, Greenville, Jacksonville, Kinston, Washington, Wilmington and Raleigh among others. Contact them directly to ask about programs, pricing and availability.
