About 1st Mind K9
Meet Calvin Wilbon
1st Mind K9 is owned by Calvin Wilbon, who grew up in the small town of Wrightsville, where he learned about natural dog behavior by adopting and following stray dogs around the neighborhood. That experience led to his own theory, "Survival and Comfort", and his approach centers on understanding a dog's perspective so owners can communicate with it effectively. He describes himself as a dog communicator, human educator, author and inventor, and says he has trained hundreds of dogs across the dog industry.
Services
The Board & Train program is a 2-4 week stay. Owners who prefer to train at home can take the Pet Online Obedience Course or the Sport/Action Online Course. Working dog training builds dogs for law enforcement, personal protection or sport work, and an in-person program for advanced trainers ends with a 1st Mind K9 certification. Calvin also runs seminars and workshops over a 1–2-day weekend covering pet obedience, personal protection, working dog sports and service dog training.
Philosophy
The company's motto is Identify, Bond, Grow, built on the idea that if you can control a dog's mind, the body will follow.
