About Saccarappa Dog Obedience Club

What they offer

Saccarappa Obedience Club is an AKC member club that teaches reward-based dog training to family pets and competition teams. Its classes meet on Monday evenings and Thursday mornings at a training center on Bishop Street in Portland, and registration is handled by mail and email.

Family dog classes

The club runs classes from the AKC Family Dog Program. AKC Star Puppy, for puppies up to six months and limited in size, covers sit, down, stand, loose-leash walking, not jumping on people and coming when called. Family Dog 101 teaches greetings, sit, down, stand, stay, leash walking, leave it and recall. A Pre Novice class polishes the basics, a Canine Good Citizen class practices all ten test items, and a short tricks class works toward the AKC Trick Dog title.

Competition classes

Competition obedience classes help teams progress through the AKC levels from Beginner Novice to Utility, and the club also trains for scent work. Classes are taught by trainers and judges who compete at local and national levels.
