What they offer

The Brainy Mutt offers science-based private dog training in greater Portland, in person and remotely. Its trainer is certified by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers and has taught group classes at dog training clubs in Massachusetts and clicker-training classes.

Training

Private training starts with a ninety-minute consult to assess the dog's needs and build a training plan, followed by one-hour follow-up sessions. The trainer helps with basics such as attention, sit and down, puppy training and socialization, as well as behavior issues, and focuses on clear communication and trust-based relationships between dogs and their people.

Background

The trainer came to the work through her own rescue dog, a shy, fearful puppy who grew into a reactive adolescent, and has studied behavior consulting and Dr. Susan Friedman's Living and Learning with Animals course.
