About Animal Welfare Society
What they offer
Animal Welfare Society is a non-profit animal welfare organization in Kennebunk, founded in 1967, that runs an adoption center, veterinary care and a canine training program open to the public. Its training is led by a team of certified professional dog trainers and is held mostly in a dedicated training classroom next to the adoption center.
Classes
Puppy Kindergarten, for puppies eight to nineteen weeks old, focuses on safe socialization, confidence building and positive reinforcement, and helps with puppy biting and house training while starting loose-leash walking, recall, sit and leave it. Basic Training, for dogs five months and older, runs for six weeks and practices sit, down, stay and loose-leash walking around distractions. Seasonal and specialty classes have included clicker training, reliable recall, basic training for shy or reactive dogs, a senior-dog class and holiday-themed trick classes, with intermediate classes for graduates.
Other programs
The team also offers individualized consultations, private puppy lessons, puppy playgroups and a training blog with tips for common problems.
