What they offer

The Capable Canine is a dog training studio on Alfred Road in Arundel that uses only reward-based, clicker training. Its instructors are certified professional dog trainers, and the business is a member of the Pet Professional Guild and opposes shock and prong collars.

Classes

Group classes run weekly at the studio. A five-week puppy class for young puppies covers sit, down, come and loose-leash walking along with potty training, socialization, handling, chewing and biting, and starts with a human-only orientation. Beginner classes follow, then continuing education and specialty classes, including a semi-private beginner option with one other dog, a confidence class for more reserved dogs and scent work taught by an instructor working toward nose work certification. The owner is also an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator.

Private training

Private sessions and behavior consultations can be held at the studio or off site, and the owner offers in-home appointments within about 15 miles of the studio. A trainer session option lets a dog spend time working directly with a trainer.

Other programs

An outdoor adventure program takes small groups of the same dogs to trails, parks and beaches for several weeks.
