About Bark University Inc

One campus for training, daycare, boarding and grooming

Bark University, Inc. describes itself as a one-stop shop, with boarding, daycare, training and grooming run from a single Mundelein campus. The home page says the campus has more than 6,000 square feet of outdoor fenced yards and 12,000 square feet indoors; the about page describes a spacious indoor obedience training facility, a grooming salon, a kennel area and over 5,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor play space.

Training

Training is taught by Candy Oppman, whom the site calls the Lake County Dog Whisperer. Puppy, beginner and intermediate group sessions run for six weeks and are limited to ten dogs. Individual and at-home sessions are offered for more specialized work, and board and train is available for very specific problems, with an evaluation required before one can be scheduled. The site says the method is positive reinforcement with a modern approach to healthy discipline, and that programs are matched to each dog's needs and sensitivity level.

Everything else on campus

Daycare play is supervised and grouped by temperament, play style, size and age, with a Day Camp program for dogs of all ages and, the site jokes, naps encouraged. Boarding runs from a single night upward, and the grooming team is credited with 40 years of combined experience. The about page says Bark University was founded in 2013 by Candy Oppman, whose route into the work was as a dog trainer and rescue rehab specialist.
