About Central Oregon Sporting Dog
Bird dog training in Bend
Central Oregon Sporting Dog is a gun dog training and breeding kennel in Bend. Founder and owner Tim Curry has professionally trained Pointers and Flushers for the past 25 years, and his background includes serving as Wingshooting Manager at two wingshooting destinations. The Curry family breeds German Shorthaired Pointers, Labrador Retrievers and English Cocker Spaniels from field champion bloodlines.
Approach
The training philosophy centers on balance: giving a dog enough to learn and progress while avoiding overload or confusion, reading each dog's body language and conveying calm, confident energy. The kennel keeps the number of dogs in training at a minimum to focus on quality, outlines in advance what each dog will learn and guarantees the listed program skills. Homing pigeons are used for bird exposure.
Programs and prices
Puppy Head Start (4 to 6 months, 4 weeks) is $1,400. The 8-week Pointing Dog and Flusher/Retriever Gun Dog programs are $2,900 each, Conditioned Retrieve is $2,400, the Advanced Retriever Program is $3,200 and four-week training is $1,600. Private sessions are $80 each, and guided training hunts are priced individually. Space is limited and often booked 6 to 9 months ahead.
