About Columbus All-Breed Training

Columbus All-Breed Training Club (CATC) is a membership-based, AKC-licensed training club established in 1953 — central Ohio's only one, by their description — and a standout for dog sports and ongoing class access.

How they train

The philosophy is owner-education and drawing out a dog's natural willingness to work with its handler. As a club rather than a commercial trainer, members pay annual dues and get essentially unlimited class participation across disciplines — exceptional value for engaged owners and a real community of dog enthusiasts.

Programs

Classes span obedience, rally, agility, scent work, barn hunt, trick dog, and Canine Good Citizen testing, plus puppy kindergarten and beginning obedience open to non-members (advanced classes are member-only). With ~75 instructors, two air-conditioned buildings, fenced rings, and several fenced acres at 2164 Williams Road, it's set up for everything from household manners to competitive sport. Cost is annual membership dues rather than per-class fees.

Experience & credentials

Established 1953 and AKC-licensed — a 70-plus-year institution. Both purebred and mixed-breed dogs are welcome. 614-491-7407 ·

Who it’s best for

Best for owners who want affordable, ongoing access to many class types — especially anyone into dog sports (agility, rally, scent work, barn hunt) or working toward titles/CGC — and who like a club community. Less ideal if you need private, intensive behavior rehab for serious aggression, board-and-train, or in-home one-on-one help.

What they can help with

Sit, stay, recall and reliable commands, from beginner to advanced.
Agility & Sport
Agility training: handling, obstacles and confidence-building.
AKC / CGC Testing
AKC title testing: CGC, Trick Dog and Star Puppy evaluations.
Early socialization, house-training and first manners for young dogs.

So I was excited to get us and our puppy into a training class, when I was initially trying to contact a person to go in for info and tour, it was hard! So when I finally did the contact wasn't with the same person but 3 different people. When my husband and I went in to talk about and see the place, my contact which she gave me a time was not focused on us or our questions to begin with, at this time our puppy was young enough for the puppy beginning obedience class but she told us that was a waste of money since we were wanting to "join" after classes. Instead she instructed us to take the next class up for puppy obedience which was to start January 5th once we paid the $150 for that class and completed it we can pay the $150 to join if we still wanted to so of course one fee of 150 instead of a piece of $300 for both classes and then another 150 to join the club and assuming that she knew she was talking about we went head and passed on the first puppy obedience class and joined the second to start January 5th so our first class with the puppy was a horrible experience! She was definitely the youngest puppy there speaking to other people most puppies were a year and over Menards was only 5 months during the class she never settled down with her excitement of the other dog and the entire time she was being choked by the Martindale collar trying to get her to sit my husband was a wreck kept dropping her training treats and never got her under control from pulling and jumping trying to get the other dogs. And again the entire hour she was coughing from being choked by the Martindale collar. I was amazed and totally disappointed that in that hour neither trainers of the class tried to give my husband any help they just completely ignored the situation and focused on the others which in my opinion were so much further along than we were. So our girl was sick the 2 and wk and class was cancelled last due to weather, so now I'm at a crossroads do I give it another shot? I definitely can't afford to lose $150, but I thought the class was to help the human learn how to handle the dog? If so, why didn't one of the two trainers take some time out to help my husband?? I definitely will not use the Martindale collar today but a harness so that she isn't having the shit choked out of her.. I've tried calling hoping to speak with someone higher than the two trainers but that's been to no avail.. I've just been so irritated with the situation and I feel like it would be better to speak with someone else.

Amazing facility and trainers! My dog and I completed the 8 week beginner course which was super reasonably priced and she graduated with many new skills! The trainers are willing to help you out, so take advantage, ask questions! Also, remember that you need to practice too. Don’t expect to just show up 8x and be perfect. Practice makes progress! I will definitely be going back!

Updated review after receiving a refund:

I’ve now received my refund, and I do appreciate that the issue was ultimately resolved. That said, the process to get here was extremely frustrating, emotionally draining, and unprofessional. Communication was lacking, follow-through was inconsistent, and I felt dismissed throughout most of the experience.

While I’m relieved it’s finally over, I wouldn’t recommend this service based on how everything was handled leading up to the refund. I hope future clients are treated with more care and clarity.

In the end, this experience didn’t stop us — it just redirected us. Since leaving, I’ve taken the lead on self-training my dog — and we’ve made incredible progress. The results have been everything I hoped for. It’s proof that with the right mindset and commitment, you can succeed — even without support from the program you started with. We’re proud of how far we’ve come, and we hope others find the support that helps them thrive, too.

**Original review below for context:
I was genuinely excited to begin training at Columbus All-Breeds Training Club and had enrolled in the Beginning Obedience Class with my Belgian Malinois, Raptor. Unfortunately, despite communicating my need for accommodations in advance, my concerns were not addressed, which made it difficult to attend or participate in the class as planned.

I reached out respectfully to request a partial refund or class credit, but after multiple attempts and no response from the club, I’m left feeling disappointed and ignored. I had hoped for a more inclusive and responsive environment, especially given the club’s reputation.

I’m sharing this so others with similar needs or circumstances are aware and can make an informed decision. I would still welcome the opportunity to resolve this if the club chooses to reach out.

My pup just turned 5 months and no one believes she's so well behaved and calm at her age. CATC is the best!
