About Custom K-9 Service Dogs LLC

What they offer

Custom K-9 is a husband-and-wife training team in Carson City. Kendall writes a dog training column for the Nevada Appeal and trained her own first medical response service dog; Chan is a Marine Corps major who brings structure to each session. Their approach is to coach the owner, so the dog learns to listen to the person it lives with.

Programs

Most clients start with a one-hour private session, in person or online, to build a training plan, then follow it through Club Doghouse, an online membership of short daily video lessons with weekly structure. Private sessions, group classes, seminars and workshops can be added at any time, and the team hosts free educational seminars at the Carson City library. A free five-day leash walking mini-course is offered as an introduction.

Service dogs

The service dog program starts with an evaluation of the dog's suitability, then guides handlers who train their own dog through foundations, task work and public access preparation, with regular check-ins. Fully trained service dog placements are also offered.
