About DOGMAN Training
Training for rescues and special-needs dogs
DOGMAN is a family-owned dog training, boarding and daycare business at 2411 Sunset Blvd in Houston. It specializes in rescues, special-needs dogs and those who need extra care, and it takes a relationship-first approach to training.
Method
DOGMAN describes its style as gentle and reward-based, using the least intrusive, minimally aversive techniques and grounding its work in current animal behavior science. It estimates that 60% of the process involves changing human behavior and 40% focuses on the dog.
The private training program
The process opens with a free 30-minute phone consultation, followed by a one-hour in-home behavioral assessment that looks at triggers, stress levels and the dog-owner dynamic. The most popular option is a five-week program of weekly one-hour sessions: 30 minutes teaching the dog, then 30 minutes of family instruction. A hybrid board and train adds immersive training with follow-up family sessions.
Boarding and the founders
Boarding and daycare take place in a converted two-story home with 24/7 on-site care and small packs. Founders William and Nancy Attra run the business; William has been involved professionally with dogs since 2010, and Nancy joined in 2016 to handle administration and growth.
