About Fischer’s Kennel & Hunt Club
Gundog and obedience training in Albany
Fischer's Kennels & Hunt Club sits in the prairie pothole region of central Minnesota near Albany, overlooking training grounds developed for gundog, hunt test and field trial work, and it promotes 40 years in business. Owner and head trainer Craig Klein bought the kennel on August 14th, 2009, after learning under founder Pete Fischer, and lives on site. He has titled numerous dogs at the highest levels of AKC field competition and is Pro Staff for Dogtra and Mossy Oak. Sam Keller is assistant trainer and kennel manager.
Training philosophy
Craig and Pete Fischer are credited with developing many modern e-collar training methods. The program is described as flexible and humane, matched to each dog's temperament, and known for work with minority retriever breeds. Dogs are worked every day, 7 days a week.
Programs
Obedience training, open to all breeds, tackles jumping, barking, pulling and poor recall through many short daily sessions using positive and negative reinforcement in a humane manner, plus two to three exercise periods a day and owner coaching at pickup. The Basics Gundog program introduces live birds, gunfire, obedience and low-level e-collar conditioning, typically 4 to 8 weeks for retrievers and 6 to 8 for pointers. Intermediate and advanced gundog, hunt test and field trial training follow an individual plan.
