About Fortified K9
Fortified K9 operates from 8411 Sims Road in Christiana, and states its mission simply: "to build stronger bonds through education and clear communication." The site claims "over 20 years of experience."
What they publish
The services page sets out the range in the business's own words: obedience training "from puppies to adult dogs … come, sit, down, place, heel, stay, and more"; leash manners and public behavior, covering "calm walking on leash, greeting manners, environmental exposure, and distraction training"; behavior modification, framed conditionally – "If your dog struggles with reactivity, jumping, or unwanted habits, our programs adapt to your goals"; and "Agility & Scent Work … scent detection, agility, and other canine activities." Protection work is published as its own service – "we also provide personal protection training for dogs with the right temperament and drives" – alongside a "Police / Working K9 Foundation" line noting that "while we have a separate Police K9 sales and training program, we also train handler-dog teams."
The board-and-train ladder
Programs are described individually. Basic Obedience Board and Train "typically lasts two weeks" and is "divided into 4 distinct phases: introduction, learning, fading, and proofing," ending in field trips "to places like Home Depot, Lowe's, Tractor Supply." The page is candid about its limits: "our basic program DOES NOT cover aggression cases including resource guarding. We do work with these dogs, but our progress is usually much slower … two weeks is not enough time." Advanced Obedience adds off-leash heeling, "down in motion," reliable recall, extended-duration stays and "neutrality in public settings." The Puppy Foundation Program is "tailored for pups 4 – 6 months old" and leans hard on exposure rather than meetings – "we aim to not simply meet dogs and people, but thoughtfully expose your puppy to a variety of sights, sounds, surfaces, environments, and experiences." Behavior Modification targets "fear, anxiety, over-arousal, environmental sensitivity, leash frustration, poor impulse control, or mild resource concerns," with reactivity named as the most common focus. Puppy Bitework and Bitework are separate working-dog programs with stated minimums of two and four weeks.
Lessons, boarding and dogs
Lessons "follow no specific plan and are completely adaptable to your exact needs," with no minimum purchase – "we do not require that you commit to a certain number of lessons or 'buy in bulk'." Boarding is set on the land: "our boarding program is unique because we are located on a 34 acre farm." The business also breeds German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherds and Labrador Retrievers, sells trained dogs including "home protectors and police K9s," and runs a "Shepherds for Sheepdogs Program – Serving Those Who Served."
