What they offer

Fowler and Family Dog Training is based in Paola and serves Johnson and Miami counties and the wider Kansas City area. Its programs include puppy training, one-on-one in-home private lessons, group lessons and behavior modification programs, plus tricks, agility and animal acting.

Getting started

Every new client starts with a pre-training assessment, held over a video call or in person at the client's home. Behavior modification cases require the in-person assessment. The trainer then presents the options that fit the owner's goals.

Lessons and classes

Private lessons are held weekly for an hour in the client's home, or at parks and dog-friendly stores when that suits the goal, with homework between sessions. Group training runs as an ongoing, open-enrollment class twice a week, paid like a membership. It covers loose-leash walking, place, recall, sits, downs and stays at mixed levels. Dogs need two or three private lessons first, and dogs with major challenges such as reactivity are pointed to other options. Current and past clients can also book walk-and-train sessions that review learned behaviors on the walk.

Therapy dog programs

The therapy dog programs prepare dog and handler for the Canine Good Citizen test and for real visits to schools and hospitals, combining private lessons, field trips and group class.

About the trainer

Head trainer Emily Remmers grew up in Olathe and worked four years at a Kansas City dog training facility before starting the company. She lists CTDI, AACE and IACP-PCKA credentials, has been a Canine Good Citizen evaluator since 2021, and volunteers as a search and rescue dog handler.
